COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The U.S. Department of Education has put Ohio State University on notice following pro-Palestinian protests on campus last spring.
The Trump administration announced it is sending a letter to Ohio State, notifying the school that it is under investigation for claims of anti-Semitic discrimination and harassment.
The letter, posted on the Department of Education's website, warns Ohio State and 59 other universities across the country of potential law enforcement action if they do not protect Jewish students on campus under Title IX. This action follows President Trump’s executive order calling for additional measures to combat anti-Semitism.
Title IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination in educational institutions based on race, color, or national origin. The University of Cincinnati is the only other Ohio university on the list.
A spokesman for Ohio State University said, "We have not received a letter at this time. Ohio State has no tolerance for anti-Semitism, discrimination, or hatred."
This development comes after the Department of Education canceled $400 million in federal grants to Columbia University, citing the university's failure to protect Jewish students from discrimination.
