State college basketball: IU women let go of late lead in loss to Ohio State

Ohio State 80, Indiana 76: Madison Greene scored 14 of her 22 points in the fourth quarter and visiting Ohio State rallied to beat No. 20 Indiana.

Indiana (20-7, 10-5 Big Ten Conference), which was trying to end a 13-game skid against the Buckeyes (16-9, 9-5) dating to 2010, led 36-34 at halftime and upped its lead to 55-49 heading into the final quarter.

The Hoosiers quickly pushed their lead to 10 before Greene and the Buckeyes took control to notch their fifth straight win. Trailing 59-49 with 9:07 remaining in the game, Greene had a layup and two 3-pointers in an 18-7 run that ended with a Janai Crooms layup for a 67-66 Buckeyes' lead. 

After Aleksa Gulbe made 1 of 2 free throws to pull Indiana even, Greene sank two foul shots, Jacy Sheldon nailed a 3-pointer and Braxtin Miller capped the 7-0 spurt with a layup for a 74-67 lead at the 2:07 mark. Ohio State never trailed again.

Greene sank 5 of 8 shots from the floor, including both 3-point tries, and 10 of 14 free throws for Ohio State. Sheldon scored 16 on 7-of-10 shooting, while Dorka Juhasz scored 13 with eight rebounds before fouling out.

Ali Patberg topped Indiana with 22 points and six assists. Jaelynn Penn added 14 points and eight rebounds. Gulbe finished with 14 points and Grace Berger scored 12 with seven rebounds before fouling out. 

Purdue 70, Illinois 58: Dominique Oden and Ae'Rianna Harris each had 16 points and nine rebounds for the visiting Boilermakers (17-10, 8-7 Big Ten).

Cassidy Hardin hit 5-of-8 3-pointers to score 15 points and Kayana Traylor added 11. Illinois fell to 11-14, 2-12.  

Louisville 82, Notre Dame 49: Dana Evans scored 18 points to lead No. 9 Louisville over visiting Notre Dame.

The Cardinals (23-3, 12-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) made 7-of-9 shots during one stretch of the second quarter to build a 36-21 lead midway through the period. Louisville played unselfish, dishing out 13 assists on 17 baskets in the half.

They built on that lead in the third quarter as Evans scored nine of her points in the period. 

Not only did Evans score, she also found her teammates as she finished with seven assists. The Cardinals tallied 24, one off tying a season high. Mykasa Robinson adding a career-high nine in the win.

The junior guard was one of four Cardinals to score in double figures. Yacine Diop came off the bench to match a season-high with 15 points.

The Fighting Irish (10-16, 5-9) started made six of their first eight baskets and converted offensive rebounds off those misses. But as the Cardinals got hot, Notre Dame made just three of its next 14 shots as the Cardinals pulled away for good.

Marquette 76, Butler 54: The visiting Bulldogs (17-8, 9-5 Big East) fell behind 25-9 in the first quarter. 

Kristen Spolyar led Butler with 16 points and Katherine Strong added 14.

Men  

Wright State 104, IUPUI 64: Sophomore James Mann came off the bench to score 21 points, leading six players in double figures for Wright State.

Mann buried 7 of 10 shots from the floor, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, and added five rebounds for the Raiders (23-5, 13-2 Horizon League), who upped their winning streak to four. Loudon Love had 18 points and eight rebounds, while Bill Wampler pitched in with 17 points and seven boards. Tanner Holden contributed 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, six rebounds and five assists. Cole Gentry finished with 13 points and five assists, while Jaylon Hall scored 10.

Markus Burk topped the Jaguars (6-22, 2-13) with 19 points, but he made just 6 of 22 shots, including 1 of 6 from beyond the arc. Reserve Jaylen Minnett scored 18 of 6-of-15 shooting from distance. IUPUI has dropped six straight games.

Wright State shot 58% from the floor and 52% from distance (15 of 29). The Raiders hit 19 of 25 free throws. IUPUI shot 35% overall and 37.5% from beyond the arc (9 of 24). The Jaguars made 7 of 11 foul shots. 

Missouri State 71, Indiana State 58: Lamont West came off the bench to score a season-high 22 points with nine rebounds and Missouri State rolled.

West knocked down 6 of 10 shots from the floor, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range, and made all seven of his free throws for the Bears (13-14, 7-7 Missouri Valley Conference). Tulio Da Silva added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Gaige Prim scored 10.

Christian Williams topped the Sycamores (14-11, 7-7) with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Jordan Barnes pitched in with 14 points and four assists, while freshman Jake Laravia scored 11 with five rebounds.

Missouri State shot 47% from the floor and 44% from beyond the 3-point line (7 of 16). The Bears made 16 of 21 from the foul line. Indiana State shot 36% overall and made just 5 of 20 from distance. The Sycamores hit 13 of 18 foul shots.

Drake 85, Evansville 80: Anthony Murphy posted career highs scoring 20 points and grabbing 13 rebounds and Drake beat Evansville.

Evansville led 40-34 at halftime before Drake (17-10, 7-7 Missouri Valley Conference) started the second half with a 13-0 run and never trailed again. Sam Cunliffe's 3-pointer with a minute to go brought the Purple Aces (9-18, 0-14) within 72-76 but the Bulldogs made all eight of their foul shots in the last 46 seconds.

Roman Penn scored 19, Liam Robbins 15 and Garrett Sturtz 11 for Drake, which ended a two-game losing streak. The Bulldogs are at .500 in their last eight games.

Cunliffe led Evansville with 25 points, Evan Kuhlman 17 and K.J. Riley 10. Evansville has lost 28 of its last 33 conference games. Their 15-game losing streak includes a 65-60 loss against Illinois State in the first round of the MVC tournament last year.

South Dakota State 75, Purdue Fort Wayne 64: The visiting Mastodons led by 10 points at halftime before being outscored 49-28 in the second half. Matt Holba led PFW (12-16, 5-8 Summit) with 13 points.
